The client wanted a gut renovation of an Upper East Side brownstone. We stripped away all the layers of cladding and interior partitions to expose the bones of the existing building. The new layout and functional elements are designed with straightforward, clean lines. A few materials—blackened steel, carbon steel, and palm wood—characterize the spare interiors.
