Arles Bakery

Arles

The client wished to create a bakery where all products kneaded by hand and made with organic flour and natural sourdough with slow fermentation would be sold together with flowers and plants from the area around Arles. The making of bread and pastries is on view through the long, glazed partition that separates it from the selling area; we exposed the old natural stone walls by removing all the existing furnishings and wall panels. We continued the outdoor stone floor of the piazza inside; we opened up the back of the store, incorporating the area of a small courtyard and transforming it into a small nursery. The space connecting the front to the rear of the store was enhanced by a sort of mural fresco of float glass panels that have a forest like pattern. The curved display counter is made of a backlit translucent concrete.
